The day the<\/span> money will disappear ,<\/span> this sentence emerged during<\/span> a<\/span> collective discussion, near<\/span> a<\/span> refuge, in the center of nature covered with snow, night falling, wrapped in blankets, warming around<\/span> a<\/span> fire ,<\/span> <\/p>\n

The next day, we were going to make the money<\/span> disappear<\/span> .<\/span><\/p>\n

The next day, going deeper into the high mountains, our steps reached a frozen lake: under the snow, the ice, under the ice, the<\/span> water<\/span> .<\/span><\/p>\n

Positioning itself at the<\/span> forefront<\/span> , exploring, securing the ground, questioning us both metaphorically and literally, on the question of the suppression of capital which structures our societies and our human relationships.<\/span><\/p>\n

Once again with snowshoes on, 15 kg<\/span> of<\/span>Nordic gold in our bags, we were off again. An exposure in a bank? Strange you say… <\/span><\/p>\n

Certainly, and that<\/span> is why Palam<\/span> found himself faced with a<\/span> difficult choice when<\/span>he was offered to exhibit there. There is some<\/span>on<\/span> the one hand the recognition as a group of<\/span> a<\/span> part of the<\/span> local cultural institution, the<\/span> access<\/span> to a<\/span> production budget, a central visibility in the life around, and a means of reaching a different public than the one that the<\/span> ‘<\/span>we meet most of the time in the current circles of contemporary art. And D<\/span>on<\/span> the other hand, a difficult place, not adapted to the<\/span> exhibition ,<\/span> marked by the symbolic charge of<\/span> a<\/span> bank and the values that<\/span> exhibiting<\/span> inside<\/span> entails<\/span> .<\/span><\/p>\n

But ,<\/span> we were told,<\/span> there<\/span> is no<\/span>neutral space. An institution, a museum, a gallery<\/span> <\/span>: same fight ?<\/span><\/p>\n

Should<\/span> art ignore<\/span> the conditions of display or, on the contrary, attach<\/span> importance to \/<\/span> the fact of questioning them?<\/span><\/p>\n

We have therefore chosen to<\/span> accept, with the concern of<\/span> deeply<\/span> questioning<\/span> this framework in which the exhibition is born.<\/span><\/p>\n

Palam has shown several times in the past its sensitivity to the ecological cause, far from being a pageantry, it is linked to<\/span> the<\/span>Collective DNA. And precisely to avoid<\/span>‘<\/span> it is not relegated to an accessory role, we had to question in its ordinary operation, what<\/span> a<\/span> bank really maintains with ecology.<\/span><\/p>\n

Is subsidizing artists who talk about ecology enough to make oneself an ecological institution? Especially when, moreover, it subsidizes fossil fuels for much more? <\/span><\/p>\n

We had carte blanche for this exhibition. It is true we can only thank the bank for this allowed freedom. Without her, the protest could not have taken place.<\/span><\/p>\n

We had, in this context, the<\/span> absurd idea that<\/span> there<\/span> is a<\/span> link between banks and capitalism, a cause and effect relationship between capitalism<\/span> and<\/span>ecological-social emergency. We choose to use the capital of the bank as plastic material and its destruction, as literal as it is symbolic, as a means of<\/span>artistic expression<\/span> .<\/span><\/p>\n

At the first Palam meeting of the expo, two questions quickly emerged:<\/span><\/p>\n

We didn’t want to “decorate<\/span> a<\/span> room<\/span> “<\/span>waiting\u201d and questioning ecology within these walls seemed impossible to us. As a result, a simple question arises: “how<\/span>‘<\/span>run away from the place? “.<\/span><\/p>\n

Through our previous projects, we have distinguished ourselves with nature walks. \u201crepetition\u201d This time s<\/span>‘<\/span> imposes the<\/span> idea<\/span> of getting the visitor himself out of the bank and even out of the city.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our second thought: What<\/span> would<\/span> be the most ecological way to<\/span> use the budget<\/span> ?<\/span> <\/p>\n

\u201cDegrowth\u201d in mind\u2026 allusions to the \u201c<\/span> carbon<\/span> footprint \u201d<\/span> \u2026 \u201cthe circulation of<\/span>money, all that\u2026\u201d. We concluded that the<\/span>‘<\/span> act of destruction<\/span> ‘<\/span>silver was perhaps the most powerful ecologically. Have we finally brought the debate to a conclusion?<\/span><\/p>\n

It seemed like we were heading down a critical path. I<\/span>Self<\/span> -censorship makes us mince words.<\/span> <\/p>\n

Degrowth,<\/span> anti<\/span> – capitalism<\/span> within<\/span>a bank: Wait? Easy ? Necessary ? We will strive to be relevant.<\/span><\/p>\n
